StreamLINE Music Review : LifeSpiral-MJR - "Chance Meeting" ft. YUPE (Rock/Pop/Alternative)

StreamLINE Music Review : LifeSpiral-MJR -

"Chance Meeting" is the latest single release by the internationally seasoned band, LifeSpiral-MJR. The eclectic band was established in 2011 by MJR, who himself is an acclaimed guitarist, composer and producer. This latest masterstroke of a composition is a wondrous collaboration with YUPE, who is a famed Japanese composer and producer.

"Chance Meeting" captures the signature rock/pop/alternative fusion sound that makes the music of this band so appealing, while it also incorporates a traditional Asian-inspired instrumentation as presented so glowingly on previous singles like Dream Sakura, La Gloria and a song we covered recently Samurai Rock.

Intriguing is a word that first comes to mind when defining the sound overall. It definitely holds an unmatched uniqueness and maintains a musicality that music lovers will gain an appreciation for.

When asked how the idea and concept for "Chance Meeting" came together, MJR shares that the band "had approached YUPE to collaborate. YUPE had this idea of using Japanese traditional instruments and mixing them with contemporary music. The song started to take shape mixing the styles of LifeSpiral-MJR distinctive guitar playing and Shamisen".

And there "Chance Meeting" was birthed. The song possesses an overt rock soundscape that is driven by a blistering lead guitar throughout which bobs and weaves through a series of intricate progressions and transitions. The various phrases are absolutely electrifying and shape the aural excitement of this track. Each strum of the guitar projects a palatable energy that you can feel as I envision MJR's fingers blazing the fretboard with his standout play.

Of note also, the gritty edge supplied by the surging guitar is balanced out with a mellifluous, catchy riff on the shamisen which is present throughout much of the song. It provides a buoyancy to the track; gives it a bounce that complements the EDM-style pounding kick drum in the background exceptionally well.

As MJR referenced with respects to YUPE's initial conception of the track, "Chance Meeting" is a brilliant mesh of acoustic instruments, traditional elements and a splash of modern day sound. It's a roller coaster of a listening experience as the track seamlessly shifts from piece to piece in the composition....keeps you on your toes and percolates your listening senses.
