Hip-hop recording artist Mac Raven prides himself on providing an authentic music experience for those that listen to his music; a no holds barred approach in which he unapologetically speaks from the core of his persona and inner most thoughts, what Mac masterfully coins as "honest self-expression through poetry".
The talented wordsmith from California has brought a distinct flow and raw lyrical energy to the hip-hop game as evidenced on previous tracks such as "Temptress" and "The ReArranging" and he further manifests his aim to bring you the real through his artistry with his latest endeavor, an intimately introspective track titled "Letting Go".
"Letting Go" is a track that carries a concept that can resonate with many music listeners as it delves into the difficulty of ultimately letting a toxic relationship go; an issue which befalls many of us at some point. This is a track which displays Mac's expressive lyricism and its remarkable ability to convey the song's messaging so vividly as he delivers a smooth, mellow, yet effectively emotive vocal performance in all the right places. Mac explains further how "Letting Go" came about and what inspired him to write the song...
Finding it difficult to communicate my emotions in a non-confrontational way interpreted by my partner, it had been hard to convey my concerns. Hip hop changed that for me. Letting go was a message to my partner to express my perception of the situation.
- Mac Raven
Mac definitely impresses as he uses the wistful boom bap instrumentation as his personal canvas to paint a picture that gives the listener tremendous insight into the roller coaster of emotions he experienced in these tumultuous circumstances. The song takes you through the various emotional stages one can go through in this instance...defiance, concern, nostalgia for what the relationship once was and even resentment.
You want to be free then take flight little birdie
But you left the nest in much too much of a hurry
it's concerning you're not worried about the spot in which you land
Out of the fire and straight into the pan
Out of the pocket produced to empty hand
I guess we should have stopped it when we had the chance
but the past is the past
and it's past the breaking point
It's really sad just how fast all that we had was destroyed

As you can see, Mac put his adept wordplay skills on front street with 'Letting Go" and as such the track serves a bona fide lyrical bonanza. The subject matter and lyrical content are equally matched with a classically produced hip-hop beat laced with a haunting piano riff and accompanying vocal interpolations that add a mystical type of aura to the overall sonics of the track.
