The purveyors of the avant-garde "Trop Pop" sound, Malibu Wild, are surging back on the scene with their second release of 2022, another spectacular single titled "3am", a stirring follow up to their equally dazzling effort "All In". The Cincinnati based band consisting of Joey Trentman and Corey Witsken have formulated their distinct sound over time which masterfully incorporates a combination of Tropical House and Indie Pop. I love how the group has embraced pushing the musical envelope and more so, fascinating how they have been able to manifest it so exceedingly well in their recordings.
The latest release "3am" stays true to that formula as it encompasses the core of Malibu Wild's artistic direction, particularly, the intrinsic buoyancy and brightness that accompanies the instrumentation and vocal performance. So, what is the "3am" track about? The title infers that it may be about a wild night out that ends around 3 in the morning or a romantic tryst that starts at that time. Well, the concept of the track actually takes on a clever symbolism that Joey Trentman explains as follows:
'3am' is about the nights you lie awake thinking of the moments and people that bring you joy. In a time hinged on uncertainty and anxiety '3am' aims to bring a moment of levity and peace in an uncertain world.

Symbolic indeed and a songwriting masterstroke, "3am" exudes a refreshing vibe of positivity that is compelled by the soundscape and lyrical content. The wistful guitar riff draws you in with its entrancing tone and the bass line is a purely top-rate groove that has a jazzy, soulful feel to it. The underlying esoteric melodies and harmonies provide somewhat of an atmosphere of a daydream or being lost in thought.... It creates a definitively unique sound that at its core, is quintessential pop, however, it is certainly something you have never quite heard before. As I alluded to above, the music and production is further accentuated with an exceptionally vibrant vocal performance that is engaging, charismatic and has the ability to make spoken words evolve into vivid images in your mind.

Formed in Cincinnati in 2018, Malibu Wild combines dream/synth pop with elements of tropical pop.
