BEHIND THE SONG: Featuring Aiela Angela - "Baby, I Know"

BEHIND THE SONG: Featuring Aiela Angela -

Pop sensation Aiela Angela got her 2022 off to a jumping start with the release of a stellar song and composition titled "Baby, I Know" on January 7. The track has all the elements you would come to expect of a commercial pop smash with its buoyant, melodic instrumentation, the brainchild of producer extraordinaire Onzieb, and its captivating lyrics conveyed in a spectacular vocal delivery by Aiela.... and of course, an extremely memorable hook.

StreamLINE had the pleasure of connecting with Aiela to answer a few questions for our Behind the Song segment where we dive a little deeper into a song such as how it came about, what it means to an artist, some extra insight into the lyrics and other interesting tidbits! So, without further adieu, read on below to find out more about Aiela's smash "Baby, I Know" from her perspective. Enjoy!

What inspired you to write “Baby I Know”?  What’s the concept of the song and do you remember where you were when the idea first hit you?

I've always wanted to write a song about going for a car ride. This idea has been on my mind for months. It's even on my phone notes. I just can't seem to find the right melody for it. When Onzieb sent me the instrumentals, I immediately felt nostalgic, as it reminded me of long, relaxing car drives. Then I wrote, "Baby, I Know." I combined nostalgia and the concept of a car ride. "Baby, I Know" turned out to be a song about a girl who returns to her hometown and experiences waves of memories as she drives around.

How did you and Onzieb connect for the collaboration?

As per my memory, Onzieb and I have been in touch on Instagram since 2020. We've been talking about collaborating ever since, but I think neither of us had the time at the moment. I contacted him again in 2021, asking if we could continue the collaboration we discussed, and that's when he sent the instrumentals. We've been working on it for months. We continued to exchange messages until the track was completed.

What lyric(s) from the song resonate with you the most?

I think these lyrics speaks to my heart the most:

As I drive back home

You hope I take it slow

When I hit the brakes

You wish I'd turn around and stay

So you stay awake

This is the game you play

Sometimes all you want to do is get away from the memories you have, but there is always that one aspect that keeps you from doing so. This aspect is the feelings you have for the people with whom you have shared memories. It will try to lure you back into the memory loop. It's like playing a never-ending game.

One word that comes to mind when you think of this song?

Memory

We love to hear what drives artists’ choice of artwork for their music. What was the idea behind the cover for the song? Is there any symbolism?

The cover perfectly describes the entire track. It's a woman who pulls over to the side of the road when she reaches the shore, symbolizing her world pausing as the waves of memories flood over her. She then takes off her sunglasses, indicating that she wants to view those memories more clearly. The image itself tells the entire plot of the song.

Does “Baby I Know” remind you of any particular song lyrically or musically, from the past or current?

Musically, it reminds me of the Chainsmokers' song "All We Know." Something about the instrumentals seems a little similar. Even my pals agreed that it sounded like it!

How to Make Your DJ Sets Pop with Harmonic Mixing Using the Camelot Wheel

The Camelot Wheel is a tremendously helpful tool for DJ's in mixing tracks in key so they blend together harmonically. The wheel was adapted from the "circle of fifths" system and incorporates a numerical value system to make it easier to understand for those for those are not familiar with key signatures or music theory. The number values on the Camelot Wheel represent the key and the letters identify between minor (A) or major scales (B). The way to use it? Whatever key your song is in, you can mix it with a song in the key one position to the left, one position to the right and directly above or below depending if a major or minor key. Major Key Example : Current track you are playing is the key of 1B (B Major).
