Youlanda Burnett Pens an Introspective Gem Titled "Double Nickels"

Creativity knows no bounds when it comes to recording artist Youlanda Burnett. The talented creative has forged a formidable catalog of work as a singer, songwriter, actress, author, host, and voice over and audiobook narrator. This extensive versatility over the course of a career which has spanned over two decades is a testament to Youlanda's passion for her artistry.

Youlanda taps into her musical talents with a recent release titled "Double Nickels", an incredibly introspective song in which Youlanda takes you on a journey through her internal self-reflection, debating decisions made, reliving moments in the past and how they have impacted her present.

"Double Nickels" has an engaging, mellow, acoustic tune that is driven by a melodically flowing guitar riff throughout the song. It presents a soundscape that possesses an aura of serenity and peace, kind of representing the quietness and calm that's necessary when you look back on your life without external distractions.

The song came about as it is a component of Youlanda's book and audiobook Keeping Trying Till You Get There. "Double Nickels" is the title of one of the chapters. Youlanda's songwriting is mentally stirring as equally as her vocal performance, which is deliberate and contained, however, she emotes each line with a distinct tone that gives you vivid insight into the emotions of the words.

The concept of "Double Nickels' is extremely relatable and can be empowering as well. I found the line, "These things made me. Thank God they didn't break me" particularly poignant as it is true that challenging moments in life or periods of turbulence come to shape who we become based on how the situations are handled. Particularly, when a person overcomes a situation, that time of crisis then becomes a source of strength.

Youlanda Burnett Bio

Youlanda Burnett is a singer-songwriter who has been in the music industry for over twenty years. She has written everything from Country R&B and a little bit of Rock & Roll. As well as some vocal appearances on Hip Hop tracks.

Youlanda Burnett, has been writings songs since the age of fifteen. She has a long history of songwriters and singers in her family, including her late mother. She grew up listening to a variety of music thanks to her. She would often hear her mother listening to everyone from, Karen Carpenter, to Chaka Kahn, Jim Croce, The Commodores and so many more. Which is probably why her song writing is so varied.

To date she has written over two hundred songs which include everything from, country, pop, r&b even a little rap, rock & roll and commercial jingles Even though life would take her in a direction that would derail her career, she never stopped writing and believing that her songs would one day make an impact.

As life gave her more freedom, she started on the journey to get her music heard. She released her first CD “Starting Over” in 2001 and then started her own record label Maylay Entertainment. At one time she had seven acts on her label, all of which she managed with her husband. Even though the acts did not last, she ended up with over one hundred fifty songs in her library. After the bumps and bruises of running a label she decided to expand her wings in a different direction, acting which is something she always wanted to do, and she loved it!

Songwriting and music were always her first love and she would eventually return to the studio to record the CD 8 Reasons as well as a few other songs. As a way to keep herself motivated she decided to start writing songs that would uplift her. That started the motivational series of songs, which include Releve’ which means to rise followed by Try Again, I See You, On My Way and her most recent Note to Self which has gotten a lot of positive feedback.

Note to Self is about the things we should be telling ourselves rather than listening to or reading what other people think they know about us. You are awesome, you are beautiful, intelligent a survivor and so many wonderful things. It’s more important to believe what we say about ourselves than the keyboard bully’s internet trolls or even people within our circle. Know that you are worthy and fearfully and wonderfully made. If saying it isn’t enough, then write a Note to Self.
