See Your Shadow Songwriting Pens a Riveting Country Western Hit, "Showdown"

See Your Shadow Songwriting Pens a Riveting Country Western Hit,

See Your Shadow Songwriting is an intriguing musical collaborative network of accomplished musicians and vocalists across a variety of genres. The collaborative is led and run by its music director, Michael Coleman, aka "The Metropolitan Cowboy", who is a creative virtuoso himself as an award-winning songwriter, producer, photographer and filmmaker.

Having established itself primarily in the dance/club music space, See Your Shadow has recently rebranded its focus and sound towards its first passion, country and western music.

The results have been extremely successful and well received as two singles, “I Will Tell Jesus You Said Hello” and "My Worth" have both reached #1 on the iTunes Country Songs chart in South Africa, while also earning significant national and international airplay and placing on said charts.

See Your Shadow will certainly continue this winning formula of success with its latest project, a riveting single titled "Showdown". It's an appealing tune with profound messaging that Michael Coleman teamed up with J. Richard Murray, a long-time songwriter in the See Your Shadow network, to create.

The two songwriters came up with an absolute gem as the lyricism is outstanding in "Showdown". It essentially touches on thinking things out and picking your battles wisely when confronted with situations that may require a verbal or physical clash. Don't seek out conflict, however, if it comes your way, don't back down and stand your ground. "Showdown" is an extremely relatable song as we all have experienced these angst-filled type of situations throughout the course of life.

You gotta have a showdown

Fight for what’s right, stand your ground

Jump right up when you’re knocked down

Don’t worry about the odds just go all in

At the showdown

Excerpt from "Showdown": See Your Shadow

I also found the song even more resounding in how it recounts past scenarios from childhood and adult life, so it offers an alternate perspective, but with the same powerful messaging. I was particularly captured by the line "My daddy always said don’t start no trouble. If it finds you don’t walk away", because I heard something similar myself as a young boy :)

Showdown's soundscape is equally as powerful as it opens with a fiery commanding electric guitar solo that seamlessly flows into the body of the song which takes on a more spright, yet steadily flowing country rock vibe. The overall tone is engaging and exceptionally ear-pleasing as you take in the expressive vocal performance.

"Showdown" is available on all streaming platforms (Spotify link below). Make sure to stream it! save it to your Favorites Library and share on your social media platforms. Enjoy the refreshing country western vibes and take in an important life lesson at the same time. How did the idea for "Showdown" come about?

Rich approached Michael about a writing competition he had heard about.  The competition was for a 90s act that was looking for a piece to revive their career.  The competition was taking place in Nashville over a weekend and the songwriters were not told who they were writing for, or what they were being asked to write about until the day of the competition. The writers would then have one day to write the song and then present it to a celebrity panel and audience.  The task was to come up with a piece that had a poker related element to it as who they were writing for was a singer who was also a competitive poker player on the Vegas circuit.  The two men locked themselves in a hotel room and the result was, “Showdown”.  When See Your Shadow rebranded with their new sound, Artistic Director, Michael Coleman, decided to produce a new updated version of the piece which was voted by the crowd as their favorite at that competition, but not selected by the panel.  “You should have seen the look on our faces when we didn’t win. I mean the crowd went nuts over this piece” says Michael Coleman, “The irony however is that the piece that was selected, didn’t move the needle on the artists career, so maybe they should have listened to the audience. I am just glad they we are now able to give this piece a new life and share it with our fans.” Source: Michael Coleman, See Your Shadow Songwriting
