Astroworld Tragedy Claims 10th and Youngest Victim, 9-year Old Ezra Blount Dies

9-year-old Ezra Blount had been in a medically induced coma after suffering grave injuries from the crush during the Travis Scott performance at the Astroworld Festival.

Ezra Blount, a 9-year-old boy from Dallas has become the tenth and youngest victim to die from injuries sustained during a massive crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival in Houston last week.

He passed away yesterday at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston according to family attorney Ben Crump.

Ezra had been placed in a medically induced coma after suffering grave injuries from the crowd surge and crush of fans during a performance by Travis Scott, the festival’s headliner and creator.

Treston Blount, Ezra’s father, described what occurred at the concert in a post he crafted on a GoFundMe page which he set up to help bear the cost of Ezra’s medical expenses.

He said Ezra was sitting on his shoulders when the crowd surge happened which led to them being crushed and ultimately separated. Treston lost consciousness and when he came to, Ezra was missing. He frantically began searching for Ezra at the concert site and finally located him at the hospital having suffered critical and life threatening injuries.

In a lawsuit filed by the family against Travis Scott and the festival's organizer, Live Nation, they stated that Ezra's severe injuries included damage to his brain, kidney and liver after being “kicked, stepped on and trampled, and nearly crushed to death”.

The Blount family is seeking at least $1 million in damages. Houston police and fire department investigators continue to review surveillance footage provided by concert promoter Live Nation, in addition to dozens of clips shared on social media by attendees of the concert.

Investigators will also speak with Live Nation representatives, Scott and a selected group of concertgoers. The nature of the investigation has ramped up and Scott and Live Nation are now the focus of a criminal investigation.

Houston mayor Sylvester Turner took to his Twitter account to express his condolences and extend prayers for the Blount family.

I am saddened to learn of Ezra’s death this evening. Our city tonight prays for his mom, dad, grandparents, other family members and classmates at this time. They will need all of our support in the months and years to come. May God give them strength. RIP Ezra. st #AstroWorld pic.twitter.com/Ankq7FMa3l
