StreamLINE Music Review - Alex Slay : "Deep End"

StreamLINE Music Review - Alex Slay :

When R&B meets jazz with a swift collaboration of blues, neo-soul and pop, you get the eclectic, scintillating sound of Nashville-based recording artist Alex Slay.

Alex's music career emerged in quite the unique way as he was a singer on a variety of international cruise ships in which he had the opportunity to perform for hundreds of travelers each night.

It's no doubt that this worldly experience in conjunction with his musical influences such as the iconic Stevie Wonder and current trendsetter Anderson.Paak have played a part in shaping the dynamic style that he has developed.

Today, we're going to talk about Alex's recent release "Deep End" which is a perfect representation of the incredible fusion of genres and styles that we mentioned above.

Alex explains how the concept of "Deep End" came about:

"I wrote ‘Deep End’ after I began to emerge out of this really guarded, cautious emotional state. It’s about me jumping back into dating and letting myself fall in love again after a long time. I wanted to create something that just felt good and effortless, to capture this feeling of floating. I wanted it to feel chill and smooth while still being danceable. What I love most is that the song is reminiscent of this retro timeless sound I’ve always loved.

Alex was certainly successful in accomplishing the immersive sound he was aiming for.

"Deep End" is an outstanding composition and a track you're sure to hit the back button on multiple times or just put on "repeat" to hear it again even sooner.

The production is top of the line and displays a keen skill for arrangement and musicianship. All the components seem to drop in and out at the perfect time making for an amazing listening experience.

Alex turns in an exceptionally smooth, silky vocal performance that matches extremely well with the jazzy, R&B instrumentation.

He captures the essence of the song's theme through an expressive, yet easygoing delivery that drives the appeal of the track

As we listened, the soundscape of the song with its distinct tone and timbre brought a flood of images into our minds of what artists the sound reminded us of. The list was endless!

Lastly, and no spoiler alerts here :), but there is an out of this world bass solo on "Deep End" that is the proverbial "icing on the cake" to a gem of a song.
