StreamLINE Artist Feature & Interview : WILLIS LOVE

Hey StreamLINE World! In the latest edition of our Interview Series, we had the pleasure of chopping it up with multi-dimensional recording artist, singer and producer Willis Love.

Read on to learn more about his career, projects and future works on the horizon. Enjoy!

- Hi Willis, thank you for taking the time to speak with us at StreamLINE! We’ve featured some of your music in the past and look forward to our audience getting a closer look into your artistry and career.

- Please tell us a bit about your background, where you’re from etc.

I’m from Brooklyn, New York, born & raised.

- What were your early music influences?

My earlier influences were Michael Jackson, Jagged Edge, Ginuwine, Mavado & Dru Hill.

- What would you say was the defining moment or point in your life when you decided to pursue music professionally?

When I was younger I was producing riddims for dancehall compilations. I used to always record music and hold it until one day I played it for sister and she told me that I needed to let people hear it.

After the reaction I got from the public, I always felt my music can be a healing energy and inspiration for people so I decided to pursue it.

- 2021 has been a prolific year for you musically. You’ve already dropped two spectacular solo projects END and END-ING Deluxe, a collab EP with Zoo Rass and appeared on a number of features. How have you been able to maintain such an exceptional level of consistency in quantity AND quality?

I've worked with Zoo Rass since the beginning. I produced all of his records until now so our music connection was built from the ground up.

We've always wanted to release great music together and the collaboration EP was just us recording music and having fun.

Personally I like to experience things before I write my music so I'm always into trying new things and traveling to new places and learning new cultures. It helps keep my music fresh, exciting and new.

- Please tell us about your new album project CLL2 and what type of sound and tracks music listeners can expect from it?

CLL2 is the sequel to my debut album “Crazy Lust Love”. It was a series I started based off the emotions you experience in relationships.

- Please tell us what your creative process is like. Is your creativity triggered by events or things you experience or is it just more of a natural vibe that you get?

Definitely experiences and past relationships drive it. Once I get in a zone I can create anywhere between 5 - 16 songs at a time.

Sometimes there are going to be crazy moments. The sex might be very lustful and obviously you're going to experience love if it's with the right person. I wanted to describe what that would feel like but sonically through this album.

- We covered the official “She Better” music video in a previous article and raved about the cinematography and imagery. How did the concept of the combo/video come about?

We wanted to recreate the silhouette challenge but more professionally done and “Stay Close” was just a segway for the Deluxe album coming to life. Sneak Preview (Rich) is somebody who i work with exclusively on all my video content. We have a great creative connection.

- Tell us about the Willis Love Freestyle Challenge on Instagram. Looked like it was a blast jammin’ with the artists that participated? How did that idea come about?

I honestly didn't think it would take off the way it did. Zoo had sent me a video with a dancehall producer doing something similar.

I have so many beats just sitting around, I figured what the hell?!? let me give it a whirl! Next thing you know people started hitting the duet button on Tik Tok.

- What has been your most memorable experience performing live thus far? What do you enjoy most about performing in a live setting?

Performing live is a great experience because you get to see how your music really sits with people and how it hits them.

My favorite moment was when I performed my single “Wet” at the Knitting Factory in New York and all the artists were there to sing their verses. Experience was fire!

- What hobbies and interests do you have outside of your music endeavors?

I love acting, Improv. I also enjoy working out, eating food from different places, traveling and just experiencing life in general

- What’s next musically for you upon the release of CLL2? Any music videos in the works, features or live shows?

There's going to be videos, more music and shows of course. I'm also planning on making my acting debut in 2022.
