5 Top Picks from New Music Friday by Pauline Matthews

5 Top Picks from New Music Friday

Here are my 5 top picks out of the list from New Music Friday on Spotify. Growing up I like to listen to many different genres, I still do now but on Spotify. In this list, I have randomly chosen a song that sounds catchy or soothing to me. However, the number one thing I look for in a song is the meaning in its lyrics. A song can sound great but it has to have some meaning to it for me. Unless it is an instrumental song.

1.

Blessed and Free - Kane Brown (ft. H.E.R.)

This is number one because of its message. The message is so encouraging and soul-revitalizing every time I listen to it. As a fan of "Slide" singer H.E.R., the collab with Kane Brown is a cherry on the top! Both religious and non-religious people can be inspired by this song.

2.

Welcome to the Internet - Oliver Tree & Little Big

Straightforward and hilariously honest this song is, "Welcome to the Internet" targets this digital-obsessed era perfectly regarding its advantages and horrors. Their music video also has an interesting way of expressing the common trends that go on on the internet I think is very smart to show.

3.

Rise - Calum Scott

Like my first pick, "Rise" is empowering, reminding us that we can reach our dreams just don't be discouraged by the hurdles up ahead. The upbeat sound of the drums in this song as it gradually builds up with the chorus makes the song's lyrics unbelievably stronger.

4.

Lover Like Me - CL

Although I am a single-pringle, I love this song. If I were to go through a breakup, I would recommend listening to this to feel more confident and happily move on with my life alone or find someone else new.

5.

Panic Attacks In Paradise - Ashnikko

Ironically, this song hits close to home because we all struggle with some mental health issues regardless of status. Ashinikko executes this topic beautifully by not shying away from serious topics like these but instead being authentic with herself as a human being and a celebrity.

How to Make Your DJ Sets Pop with Harmonic Mixing Using the Camelot Wheel

The Camelot Wheel is a tremendously helpful tool for DJ's in mixing tracks in key so they blend together harmonically. The wheel was adapted from the "circle of fifths" system and incorporates a numerical value system to make it easier to understand for those for those are not familiar with key signatures or music theory. The number values on the Camelot Wheel represent the key and the letters identify between minor (A) or major scales (B). The way to use it? Whatever key your song is in, you can mix it with a song in the key one position to the left, one position to the right and directly above or below depending if a major or minor key. Major Key Example : Current track you are playing is the key of 1B (B Major). You can mix it with tracks in 12B, 2B and 1A. Example : Ultimate DJ Tools_- Camelot Wheel for Harmonic Mixing in the Key of 1B Minor Key Example : Current track you are playing is the key of 1A (A-Flat Minor).
